Upstairs at the Ritzy

Tonight, 8pm! Poetry, freebies, friends. At the Ritzy in Brixton.

"I see it all perfectly; there are two possible situations –– one can either do this or that. My honest opinion and my friendly advice is this: do it or do not do it - you will regret both."

Santuario de Las Lajas is a church built inside the canyon of the Guáitara River in Colombia.
The reason for the church’s creation is that in 1754 an Amerindian woman named Maria Mueces and her deaf-mute daughter Rosa were caught in a heavy thunderstorm. They found refuge between the gigantic lajas (rocks) in the valley, and it is there that an image of the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to Rosa on a stone. The image that Rosa saw is still visible today. (image: ??)

"Eroticism is first and foremost a thirst for otherness. And the supernatural is the supreme otherness. This is perhaps the most noble aim of poetry, to attach ourselves to the world around us, to turn desire into love, to embrace, finally what always evades us, what is beyond, but what is always there—the unspoken, the spirit, the soul."
